Composite (white) Fillings: Mercury Free; BPA Free
Tooth-colored fillings are the most lifelike material used to fill cavities. Composite fillings can be done in one visit. Once the decay is removed, the tooth is filled with this composite material that hardens immediately after placement.
Pulp Treatment (Pulpotomy/Pulpectomy/Baby Root Canal)
Root canals may be necessary when a tooth has very deep decay which is close to or invades the nerve. A pulpotomy (baby root canal) involves removing the nerve of the baby tooth to avoid dental abscess. Once a baby tooth requires a pulpotomy, it must be restored with a crown.
Stainless Steel Crowns (Silver Crowns)
A crown is a dental restoration that completely covers the outside of a severely decayed tooth. Stainless steel crowns are safe, non-toxic and do not contain any mercury.
Porcelain Crowns (White Crowns)
A crown is a dental restoration that completely covers the outside of a severely decayed tooth. White crowns are much more esthetic than silver crowns and are safe, non-toxic and do not contain any mercury. While stainless steel crowns are reserved for molars only, porcelain crowns may be used on both front and back teeth.
Silver Diamine Fluoride
Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is an alternative approach to treatment of cavities in children. SDF is faster and cheaper than drilling and filling however the downside that when applied, SDF blackens the tooth. It is not appropriate to use in all cases.
Extractions
A tooth that cannot be saved (abscessed) or needs to be extracted for orthodontic reasons may need to be removed. Generally nitrous oxide and “Novocaine” are used for maximum comfort. Our Doctors are experts and will help alleviate any fears you and your child may have.
