Comprehensive Oral Evaluation

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends an oral evaluation every six (6) months to prevent cavities and detect any dental problems. During an oral evaluation, a thorough examination of the mouth, head, and neck is performed to detect abnormalities. If any problems or abnormalities are detected during your child’s visit, That Broadway Smile will review treatment options.

Dental Cleanings (Prophylaxis)

Regular professional dental cleanings help keep your child’s gums healthy and their teeth cavity-free. During your child’s dental cleaning, our team will remove tartar and plaque and polish their teeth to remove stains and prevent even further build-up of plaque. That Broadway Smile makes dental cleanings fun for patients with themed exam rooms and entertainment options. Plus, your child will be able to choose their favorite flavor of toothpaste!

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride, which is a natural substance that helps strengthen teeth, is a major factor in reducing dental cavities and is recommended by the AAPD. Fluoride treatments at That Broadway Smile are an important component of your child’s routine pediatric dental visits after their cleaning is performed. In addition, the community water on Long Island is not fluoridated and topical fluoride treatments in the office and in some cases, fluoride vitamins may be recommended.

Digital X-Rays

That Broadway Smile utilizes advanced technology, including digital x-rays to help identify decay, extra teeth, bone defects, tumors, cysts, check on progress of previous procedures and more that we are not able to see with the naked eye. Digital x-rays reduce radiation exposure by over 50% and produce high-quality images that our dentists, parents and patients can view immediately. Although digital x-rays have lower radiation exposure, our office recommends x-rays infrequently to minimize exposure.

Oral Hygiene Instructions

During your child’s routine visit, our dentists and hygienists will provide you and your child valuable tips on staying on top of their oral hygiene. Home care is a big factor in reducing plaque and tartar build-up, which can inn turn lead to cavities and gum disease. That Broadway Smile will provide you and your child with information on proper brushing, flossing and mouth rinsing techniques and can also provide a list of foods to avoid in order to keep your child’s teeth healthy for a lifetime!

Dental Sealants

Even if your child brushes and flosses properly, in some cases, it is not possible to clean the grooved or pitted surfaces of your child’s teeth. This is especially true on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (molars) where most cavities in children are found. Dental sealants, which are made from safe resin materials that are BPA-free, are designed to protect these grooved and pitted surfaces. The application not dental sealants are quick, easy, pain-free—and can be completed in just one visit to the office. After your child’s cleaning, the sealant will be painted on the surface of the teeth and a special light will harden the resin material. There is no down-time after the application and your child will be able to eat normally right away. That Broadway Smile will check your child’s dental sealants at their routine visits and will only need to re-apply or repair if necessary.
